Why Gaggenau Appliances Need a Specialist
Gaggenau is modular in a way almost nothing else is. A Vario cooktop is not one appliance but a row of them — induction, gas, Teppan Yaki, grill and downdraft modules set side by side, with the 400 series controlled by illuminated knobs on the cabinet fascia and the 200 series by controls on the appliance surface. That means a fault is usually in one module and its control run, not in a cooktop, and treating it as a single appliance wastes a visit.
The 400 series dishwasher dries with a Zeolite container rather than with heat, and that is a genuinely different subsystem. Gaggenau warns in its own manual that the outlet opening becomes hot enough to burn, and there is a dedicated error for dishware blocking the intake. There is no service or replacement procedure for the Zeolite in the owner documentation, which tells you what kind of item it is.
Access is the other thing that sets these apart. Gaggenau markets a flexible hinge system precisely so a dishwasher can go almost anywhere, and the pull-out procedure in the manual runs to five steps before the machine moves: power off, water valve closed, drain detached, supply detached, cabinet screws out, base panel off. On a flush-mounted oven or a Vario cooling column it is the same story. That work is ahead of any diagnosis.

Gaggenau's numbering is a hierarchy rather than a generation: 400 series sits above 200 series, and the difference shows up in how the appliance is controlled.
If you are reading a rating plate, what you want is the appliance number and the E-Nr., because Gaggenau's document portal is organized around those rather than around the series name.

Common Gaggenau Problems We Fix
The dishwashers are where Gaggenau publishes a real fault table, and the faults below are the ones that table decodes. On cooking appliances the diagnosis is measurement-led rather than code-led.
Dishwasher heating element calcified
Gaggenau logs this as its own error. In this area the water is hard enough that scale on the element is a recurring rather than an occasional problem, and the fix is descaling plus setting the water softening system correctly, not a new element.
Water protection system tripped
Two separate codes cover it, and Gaggenau's remedy for both is the same: close the supply valve and call service. It is a hard interlock, so repeatedly resetting it is not an option and should not be attempted.
Dishwasher not filling
Gaggenau's documented causes are a closed supply valve, a kinked or blocked inlet hose, and a jammed or clogged valve. The manual specifies a minimum flow of 10 liters per minute with the supply open, which is a number worth measuring rather than assuming.
Dishwasher not draining
Two codes here, and neither is an appliance fault in Gaggenau's own words. One is a loose drain pump cover or a foreign object in the pump; the other is a plugged disposal, a kinked drain hose, or a missing high loop letting debris back into the hose.
Lower spray arm not turning
Blocked rotation, or the arm not correctly fitted. On the 400 series with its extra cleaning area, a misfitted lower arm produces poor cleaning that looks like a pump fault.
Zeolite intake blocked
A dedicated error fires when dishware covers the Zeolite container's intake opening. It is a loading problem, and a five-second one to correct, but only if you know the container exists.
Supply voltage too low
Gaggenau states plainly that this is not a problem with the appliance and directs it to an electrician. On these machines it is worth ruling out before anyone opens anything.
Induction module dropping out under load
On Vario and full-surface induction the generator derates itself when cooling airflow is restricted. We check the intake path and the fan before condemning a power module, because the cabinet below is often the cause.
One Vario module dead, the rest working
Points at that module and its control run, not at the cooktop. On the 400 series the knobs are mounted separately on the fascia or countertop, which adds a wiring run that can fail on its own.
Oven shows an unspecified E-code
Gaggenau's current oven manuals carry one entry for all of them: an error occurred, power-cycle the appliance, contact service with the code. There is no published per-code table for the ovens, so a specific diagnosis has to be measured.
EB 333 door out of alignment
The 36-inch oven's door weighs around 44 pounds and is the whole front of the appliance. Hinge wear here is not a cosmetic matter: once the door sits proud the oven loses heat continuously and reads as a calibration fault.
Vario cooling column not holding temperature
Sensing, airflow or the door seal, in that order, and on integrated columns the ventilation path in the cabinetry belongs on that list too.
Gaggenau Error Codes and What They Mean
Gaggenau publishes a proper fault table for its dishwashers and, as of the current manuals, none at all for its ovens. Below is the dishwasher table, in our own words.
The honest caveat first. Gaggenau's current 400 series manual also states that anything in the range E:0100 to E:9010 that is not listed individually is simply “a technical issue”, with instructions to power-cycle and call service with the code. It does not publish what those mean. Third-party repair sites do circulate Gaggenau oven and dishwasher code tables; we have not used them, because they are not Gaggenau documents and at least one carries its own warning that codes vary by model and region.
The codes below are the ones Gaggenau itself decodes.

Gaggenau Parts and Availability
Gaggenau's safety documentation is explicit that repairs should use original factory replacement parts, and on these appliances we agree with it for practical reasons rather than out of deference. The modular Vario units are dimensioned to a specific cutout and their control runs are matched; a substituted module or an approximate knob assembly does not integrate cleanly with the rest of the row.
Two subsystems are effectively factory items and we will say so rather than experiment on your appliance. The Zeolite drying container in the 400 series dishwasher has no service, test or replacement procedure in the owner documentation. And the AquaStop water protection system, when it trips, is covered by a BSH pledge on water damage, which is a good reason not to have an independent workshop improvise on it.
Everything else is normal repair work. Drain pumps, inlet valves, diverters, filters, door hinges, seals, induction coils and fans are ordered against the E-Nr. from the rating plate, and the technician confirms availability from your kitchen. On the discontinued 200 series ovens that availability check matters more than usual, and we do it before you agree to anything.

Afterwards you get one price for the whole repair, parts and labor together with the 3-month parts and 30-day labor warranty, and nothing goes ahead until you agree to it. Where the honest answer is that a subsystem belongs with Gaggenau's own service channel, we say so and you pay the service call, nothing more.

One zone on my Vario cooktop is dead and the others work. Is the whole cooktop finished?
Almost certainly not. A Vario cooktop is a row of separate modules — induction, gas, Teppan Yaki, grill, downdraft — so a single dead zone points at that module and its control run rather than at the cooktop. On the 400 series the knobs are mounted separately on the fascia or countertop, which adds a wiring run that can fail entirely on its own.
What is the Zeolite container in my dishwasher, and can you fix it?
It is how the 400 series dries: a mineral container that releases heat as it absorbs moisture, instead of a heating element. Gaggenau warns that its outlet gets hot enough to burn, and there is a dedicated error for dishware blocking its intake. If the fault is blocked loading, that is a two-minute fix. If the container itself has failed, the owner documentation describes no service or replacement procedure for it, which means it belongs with Gaggenau's own service channel and we will tell you that.
My Gaggenau oven shows an E-code. What does it mean?
Honest answer: Gaggenau does not publish it. Its current oven manuals carry a single entry covering all of them — an error occurred, power-cycle the appliance, call service with the code. Third-party sites do publish Gaggenau oven code tables and we have deliberately not used them, because they are not Gaggenau documents. Are you authorized by Gaggenau?

My dishwasher says the heating element is calcified. Does it need replacing?
Usually not. It needs descaling, and then the water softening system set to the local hardness so that it does not happen again. The water in this area is hard enough that scale on the element is a recurring problem rather than an unlucky one, so the part of that job that matters is the setting, not the descale.
Can you get to an appliance that is flush-mounted into the cabinetry?
Yes, and it is most of what Gaggenau work involves. The manuals set out a proper sequence: power off, water valve closed, drain and supply detached, cabinet fixing screws out, base panel off, then the appliance comes forward with its hoses. We follow it with the surrounding millwork protected. That access is real labor ahead of diagnosis, so tell us how the appliance is installed when you book.
I have a 200 series oven. Are parts still available?
Worth checking early, and we do. Gaggenau's US page marks the 200 series ovens as discontinued from December 2025, with the Expressive series replacing them. Discontinued does not mean unsupported, but it does mean availability is the first thing to confirm rather than the last, because on an older built-in it can be what decides repair against replacement.
