Why Hestan Appliances Need a Specialist

Hestan documents its appliances at a level almost no other brand shares with owners, and it changes what a first visit can accomplish. The induction rangetop manual does not just list error codes — it gives the remedy, and the remedies are service-level: exchange the control unit, replace the power board, replace the inductor, check the filter board. That is a technician's table printed in an owner's book, and it means we can often tell you on the phone whether we are looking at a part or a configuration problem.

One entry in that table is genuinely important and widely missed. A configuration fault fires when there is a mismatch between the induction generator and the touch control, and Hestan's remedy is a new configuration through the service menu — not a part. Which means replacing an induction generator on these rangetops requires re-pairing it to the touch control afterwards. Swap it in without doing that and the appliance comes back with the same code, and somebody blames the new part.

The Smart Burner on the dual-fuel ranges is the other Hestan-specific system. It talks to a Cue pan over Bluetooth, and several of its errors are not appliance faults at all — a low or dead battery in the pan, a lost Bluetooth connection, a pan lifted off the burner. We would rather tell you that on the phone than charge you $99 to discover it. Its ignition error, on the other hand, is a real igniter fault and terminates the cooking cycle.

Hestan Series and Model Lines We Service

Hestan names its series by model prefix rather than by a marketing word, which is unusually practical — the rating plate tells you exactly what you have.

Two of the families below are no longer in Hestan's current indoor category list but are still in kitchens and still documented by the manufacturer, so we service them and have said so rather than leaving a gap.

LineWhat it is, and what it means for a repair
KRG seriesAll-gas ranges. 30-inch four-burner and 36-inch five-burner freestanding and slide-in units, gas fuel throughout.
KRD seriesDual-fuel ranges: gas surface, electric oven. 36-inch five-burner and 48-inch five-burner with a 12-inch griddle. These carry the Smart Burner system.
KRI seriesInduction ranges at 30 and 36 inches. Generator, cooling airflow and configuration faults rather than ignition ones.
KVL seriesLiner hoods at 30, 36 and 48 inches. Insert-style ventilation set into custom millwork, which is where access becomes the job.
KVI seriesIsland hoods at 36, 42 and 54 inches. Island-mount, so the blower and its wiring are overhead and the ducting run matters.
KRP and KRBBottom-mount refrigerators — KRP with a top compressor in the Pro format, KRB with a bottom compressor. Compressor position changes the access route.
KRC and KFCRefrigerator columns (KRC, 24 and 30 inch, right or left hinged, overlay or color) and freezer columns (KFC, 18, 24 and 30 inch). Made in Italy.
Campania Pizza Oven, Cooking Suites and Custom LineupsProduct names rather than series. Worth mentioning because a custom lineup means the appliances were dimensioned to the millwork, and access has to be planned.

Series prefixes, sizes and formats from Hestan Indoor, consulted September 2026.

Common Hestan Problems We Fix

Hestan publishes real fault tables with real remedies for the induction rangetops, the dishwashers, the wall ovens and the Smart Burner. These are the faults we meet.

Induction over-temperature at the touch control

The control shuts down after ten seconds once it passes 185 °F. Hestan's remedy is to let it cool, which means the real question is why it got that hot — usually the cabinet below is not letting it breathe.

Induction coil overheating

Its own code, caused by an overloaded rangetop or a pan boiled dry. Not a failure, but it is worth knowing so you are not sold a generator.

Generator and touch control mismatch

A configuration fault, not a hardware one. The remedy is a re-configuration through the service menu. This is why a replaced induction generator sometimes shows the same code it was fitted to fix.

Power board failure

Two separate codes point at the power board, one explicitly caused by component failure. Hestan's own remedy names checking the wiring and the filter board before replacing it, which we do.

Incorrect fan speed on the induction cooling fans

Hestan names a blocked air exhaust as a cause alongside a defective fan. On an island installation the exhaust path is often the answer and costs nothing.

Defective inductor temperature sensor

Its own code, with the remedy given as replacing the inductor or the power board. We measure before choosing between them.

Communication error between touch control and induction

Hestan names a connection cable not correctly plugged in as a cause, ahead of a defective one. Worth checking properly before any part is ordered.

Smart Burner ignition error

The burner could not be lit after several re-ignition attempts and the cooking cycle terminated. Hestan's stated cause is a faulty igniter, so this one is a real repair.

Smart Burner pan and battery errors

Several codes here are not appliance faults: a dead or low battery in the Cue pan, a lost Bluetooth connection, or a pan that was removed or badly positioned. We would rather sort these on the phone.

Wall oven latch mechanism fault

Hestan documents its own recovery: remove power, restore it after a few seconds, and the oven should run a latch auto-test. That test tells you a great deal before anything is removed.

Cooking mode knob left between positions

Two wall oven codes fire when a knob has been left between off and self-clean for thirty seconds or more — one for the upper cavity, one for the lower. Entirely benign, and frequently mistaken for a failure.

Dishwasher AquaStop trip

The anti-flooding system has activated because of a leak, and the cycle terminates immediately. The job is finding the water, not clearing the code.

Refrigeration warning messages rather than codes

Hestan refrigeration says things like fridge too warm, check condenser or replace filter in plain words. The condenser message appears on a six-month schedule and is maintenance, not a fault.

Hestan Error Codes and What They Mean

Hestan publishes more diagnostic detail to owners than any other brand we service. Below is its own documentation, described in our words.

Worth noting where the detail stops. The refrigeration columns report plain-language messages instead of numbers, and when something genuinely fails they show a generic error-code message directing you to customer care — the specific numbers behind that are not published, so refrigeration is diagnosed by measurement.

One row below carries a caveat of our own. The induction rangetop manual's table extracted with its description column offset by a row, so one entry — continuous sensor activation from water or a utensil resting on the glass above the controls — is our reading of the layout rather than an unambiguous match. We have flagged it rather than presenting it as certain.

CodeWhat it meansWhat we do
Er 20Induction: flash memory or touch control failure, caused by a faulty microcontroller. Hestan's remedy is to exchange the control unit.Confirm the fault, then fit the control unit. This one really is a part.
Er 21Induction: over-temperature. The touch control exceeded 185 °F and shuts off after ten seconds. Remedy: let the system cool.Let it cool, then find out why — usually restricted airflow in the cabinet below.
Er 22Induction: defective key evaluation. Short circuit or no continuity in the key area; the interface shuts off within seconds. Remedy: exchange the control unit.Check for liquid ingress at the panel edge before ordering.
Er 31Induction: incorrect configuration data, or a deviation between the generator and the touch control. Remedy: new configuration via the service menu.Re-configure rather than replace. This is the code a new generator throws if nobody re-paired it.
Er 36Induction: the NTC value on the touch control is defective and the interface turns off. Remedy: exchange the control unit.Measure first, then fit the control unit.
Er 47Induction: communication error between the touch control and the induction module — no communication, or a connection cable not correctly plugged in or defective.Check and reseat the cable before quoting anything. Hestan lists that cause first for a reason.
Er 03Induction: continuous sensor activation, with the controls shutting off after ten seconds, caused by water or a utensil sitting on the glass above the control unit. See our caveat above about this row.Clear and dry the control area; if it persists, test the panel properly.
E 2Induction: overheating of the induction coils, from an overloaded rangetop or cookware boiled dry.Explain the cause. Not a repair, and we will not invent one.
E 6Induction: an error on the power board or the supply element. Remedy: check wiring, check the filter board, replace the power board.Work Hestan's own order — wiring, filter board, then the power board.
E 8Induction: incorrect fan speed, on the left or right fan. Causes: blocked air exhaust, or a defective fan.Clear the exhaust path first, since on island installations that is often all it is.
E 9Induction: defective temperature sensor on the inductor. Remedy: replace the inductor, or the power board.Measure to decide between the two rather than replacing both.
E AInduction: an error on the power board caused by component failure. Remedy: replace the power board.Confirm the supply is within specification so a new board does not fail the same way.
U 400Induction: continuous tone, power supply at the inlet too high. Remedy: correct the power supply connection. An installation or supply fault. We measure and refer to an electrician rather than selling a part.
ER01, ER02, ER03, ER07 (Smart Burner)Pan temperature rise not detected from a badly positioned or removed pan (ER01); Bluetooth connection lost from a dead or low battery in the Cue pan (ER02); low battery in the Cue pan (ER03); the pan reporting a fault during the cycle (ER07).Mostly not appliance faults. We will tell you so on the phone where we can.
ER04, ER08, ER09 (Smart Burner)Power lost during a cooking cycle (ER04), failure to connect to Wi-Fi from wrong provisioning details (ER08), and failure to reach the update server (ER09).Connectivity and supply, not cooking. We say plainly if nothing needs repairing.
ER05 (Smart Burner)Ignition error. The burner could not be lit after several re-ignition attempts and the cooking cycle was terminated. Hestan's stated cause is a faulty igniter.A genuine repair. We test the igniter and the gas supply, then replace it.
ER06 (Smart Burner)Contact service. Hestan states that any fault not described elsewhere in its table produces this code and terminates cooking.Diagnosed by measurement. We tell you what we tested to reach a part.
ERR04, ERR05, ERR08, ERR20 (dual-fuel oven)A non-critical electronic malfunction. The oven can still be used without the affected feature; Hestan asks that you call for service at the earliest opportunity.Tell you what you have lost and what it costs to restore, so you can choose the timing.
Any other oven error codeHestan classes these as a critical electronic malfunction: if the code persists, do not use the oven and call for service.Treat as a safety matter and isolate the appliance until it is diagnosed.
F03 or F04 (wall oven)A problem with the latch mechanism. Hestan's documented recovery: remove power, restore after a few seconds, and the oven should run a latch auto-test.Run the auto-test and watch it, which usually identifies the motor or the switch.
F15 or F16 (wall oven)The cooking mode knob was left between off and self-clean, or between default and self-clean, for thirty seconds or more. F15 is the upper cavity, F16 the lower.Benign. Set the knob properly and show you why it happened.
E1, E2 (dishwasher)AquaStop failure — the anti-flooding system has tripped on a water leak (E1); safety level — the water level limiting system has tripped (E2). Both terminate the cycle.Find the water and repair the cause. These are interlocks, not codes to reset.
E3, E4 (dishwasher)Water is not heated or is heated incorrectly (E3); water temperature monitoring malfunction (E4).Heater and sensing, plus a check for scale, which in this area is a real factor.
E5, E6 (dishwasher)The appliance does not take in water, or does so incorrectly (E5); it does not pump out water, or does so incorrectly (E6). Both interrupt the cycle and resume once cleared.Supply pressure and inlet valve for E5; filter, pump and drain route for E6.
E7 (dishwasher)Turbine flow-regulator malfunction — the appliance cannot precisely measure incoming water. Shown at the end of the cycle, which still completes.Test the flow meter. The cycle completing is why this gets ignored for months.
E8, E9, E11 (dishwasher)Alternate washing system malfunction (E8); water intake system malfunction (E9); wash motor pump malfunction (E11). Hestan routes E9 and E11 to service.Measured diagnosis, with the pump powered directly before it is condemned.
Refrigeration display messagesHestan refrigeration uses words, not numbers: power failure, fridge or drawer door open, replace filter at 30 percent capacity remaining, fridge too warm or too cold, check condenser every six months, and a generic error-code message directing you to customer care.Reset the condenser reminder after cleaning; diagnose the generic error by measurement, since the numbers behind it are unpublished.

Source. Codes above are from Hestan's own use and care manuals for the induction rangetop, dual-fuel range, wall oven, dishwasher and refrigeration lines, published through Hestan specifications and manuals, consulted September 2026. We describe each code in our own words rather than reproducing the manufacturer’s table.

Hestan Parts and Availability

Hestan's genuine-parts requirement is not implied, it is repeated: defective parts must only be replaced with genuine Hestan parts, and the instruction appears three separate times in the dual-fuel range manual alone. We work to that. On a brand where the refrigeration columns are built in Italy and the induction control platform is configured to a specific generator, an approximate part is not a saving.

The configuration point deserves repeating because it costs people money. An induction generator is not a drop-in item — Hestan's own table gives a configuration fault whose remedy is a new configuration through the service menu after a generator and touch control mismatch. Fit the part without re-pairing it and the appliance reports the same fault it was meant to fix.

Hestan does not print parts lists in its manuals; it directs technicians to its website for the parts list for your product, and specifies that warranty and non-warranty repairs alike be carried out by qualified service personnel. Igniters, valves, latch motors, door seals, thermostats, blower motors and capacitors, drain pumps, inlet valves and flow meters are all normal orders against the model number, with availability confirmed from your kitchen before you agree to a price.

Why Choose Honey Appliance Repair for Hestan Repair

We re-configure, not just replace

A new induction generator needs re-pairing to the touch control through the service menu. Skipping that is why some Hestan induction repairs fail twice.

We use Hestan's own fault order

Where the manual says check the wiring and the filter board before replacing the power board, we do it in that order. It is their table and it is a good one.

We re-verify the anti-tip

Hestan requires the anti-tip engagement to be rechecked whenever a range is moved, including for cleaning behind it. Every range we pull out goes back checked.

Independent, and clear about it

We are not a Hestan authorized service agent and do not claim to be. We follow the genuine-parts requirement in Hestan's documentation and use its parts channel.

What a Hestan Service Call Involves

A Hestan call starts with the model prefix from the rating plate, because the prefix decides everything: KRG, KRD and KRI are three different ranges with three different fault vocabularies, and the refrigeration columns do not use numeric codes at all. If you have a code on the display, tell us what it is when you book — on this brand there is a real chance we can tell you on the phone whether it is a part, a configuration, or a battery in your pan.

On an induction rangetop we check the airflow path and the supply voltage before touching a board, because two of Hestan's own codes name a blocked exhaust and an over-high inlet supply as causes rather than symptoms. On a range that has to come forward, we protect the cabinetry, plan for the weight, and re-verify the anti-tip device before leaving, which Hestan requires whenever the range is moved.

The service call is $99 and covers the trip and the diagnosis. Afterwards you get one price for the whole repair, parts and labor together with the 3-month parts and 30-day labor warranty, and nothing goes ahead until you agree to it.

Hestan Repair FAQ

My induction rangetop shows Er 31 after a repair. Was the part wrong?

Probably not — more likely the last step was skipped. Er 31 is a configuration fault: incorrect configuration data, or a mismatch between the induction generator and the touch control. Hestan's own remedy is a new configuration through the service menu, not a part. So a correct generator fitted without being re-paired to the touch control reports exactly that code. We do the re-configuration as part of the job.

The rangetop keeps shutting off after about ten seconds. What is it?

Two possibilities, both in Hestan's table, and neither necessarily a failure. Er 21 means the touch control passed 185 °F and shut down, with the remedy simply to let it cool — which points at restricted airflow in the cabinet below rather than a broken appliance. The other is continuous sensor activation from water or a utensil resting on the glass above the controls. We check both before anything is ordered.

My Hestan range shows ER03. Do I need a technician?

Probably not, and this is worth saying before you spend anything. ER03 on the Smart Burner means a low battery in the Cue pan. ER02 means the Bluetooth connection was lost, usually for the same reason, and ER01 means the pan was removed or badly positioned. Those are pan problems, not range problems. ER05 is the one that is a real fault — an ignition error from a faulty igniter — and that we will come out for.

My wall oven shows F15. Is something broken?

No, and it is one of the most reassuring codes we get asked about. F15 fires when the cooking mode knob has been left sitting between off and self-clean for thirty seconds or more; F16 is the same thing on the lower cavity. Set the knob to a proper position and it clears. If your oven shows F03 or F04 instead, that is the latch mechanism, and Hestan documents a recovery — remove power, restore it after a few seconds, and the oven runs a latch auto-test.

My refrigerator says check condenser. Should I be worried?

It is maintenance, not a fault. Hestan refrigeration shows that message every six months as a reminder, and it is reset by holding the button for five seconds once the condenser has been cleaned. The messages to take seriously are the temperature ones — fridge too warm, or the drawer warnings — and the generic error-code message, which Hestan does not decode publicly and which we diagnose by measurement.

Do you use genuine Hestan parts?

Yes, and Hestan is unusually insistent about it — the instruction appears three times in the dual-fuel range manual alone. We agree with it here for practical reasons rather than out of deference: the refrigeration is Italian-built, the induction control platform is configured to a specific generator, and an approximate part on either is not a saving. Hestan does not print parts lists in its manuals, so we order against your model number and confirm availability from your kitchen.

Are you authorized by Hestan?

No. We are an independent repair company with no affiliation to Hestan and we do not claim otherwise. Hestan specifies that repairs be carried out by qualified service personnel and routes warranty work through its own authorized agents, so if your appliance is in warranty, start with Hestan's service request page — you should not pay us for work the manufacturer owes you.

Has Hestan had any safety recalls?

We searched the full CPSC recall dataset, every field, and found nothing for Hestan at all. We check this on every brand we work on, because where a recall exists the manufacturer's remedy is free and it would be wrong of us to charge for it. On Hestan there is nothing outstanding to check against.

What does a Hestan repair cost?

The service call is $99 and it covers the trip and the on-site diagnosis. We do not publish price ranges. On Hestan there is a real chance the answer is cheaper than you expect — a blocked exhaust path, a loose connection cable, a battery in a pan — and a real chance it is a power board. Once the fault is known you get one price for the whole job, parts and labor together, and nothing proceeds until you agree to it.
